🇪🇸 Spanish Team Follow-Up – SCRATCH Pro: From Cyprus to Sustainable Action ♻️

From May 17th to 25th, our Spanish team —Chema, Paula, Iratxe, and Miguel— joined young people from 8 countries in Pissouri, Cyprus for SCRATCH Pro, an Erasmus+ project on sustainable entrepreneurship.

Our mission? Create, from scratch, a viable business that respects the planet.
Our idea: a startup for reusing and exchanging unused school materials between educational institutions — reducing waste and giving resources a second life.

Beyond business, the project offered a rich cultural exchange: Cypriot dinners, intercultural nights, live concerts, hikes along the coast, and a visit to Paphos' ancient ruins.

We came back not just with knowledge, but with new friends, a shared vision for sustainability, and the motivation to make it real in our communities.

A heartfelt thanks to Katerina, Erma, Bobbie, and Nikolas for their care and professionalism, and to Erasmus+ for making this adventure possible.

Next step in Spain: We'll be presenting our project idea in local schools and youth spaces, raising awareness about sustainable business and inspiring other young people to think green and act bold.

Follow-Up Activity

During the follow-up activity, the Spanish team presented their Erasmus+ experience from the SCRATCH Pro project held in Pissouri, Cyprus (May 17–25) at Hylatio Tourist Village. They shared the sustainable business idea developed during the program — a startup to exchange unused school materials between institutions — and reflected on the workshops, cultural exchange, and teamwork that shaped the project. The presentation highlighted the skills gained in entrepreneurship, sustainability, and intercultural collaboration, as well as the personal and professional growth achieved through working alongside young people from eight different countries.

Evaluation Paragraphs from Spain Participants

PAULA GARRA

The organization of the project was overall very well managed. From the beginning, we received clear and timely information regarding the schedule, tasks, and expectations. The internal agreements were well-structured, and communication through emails, the website, and the Facebook page allowed participants to stay informed and engaged. Pre-activities helped us prepare mentally for the program, and dissemination was consistent and professional. The implementation of the PDA (Practical Development Activities) was effective and aligned with the goals of the project. Participants reported high engagement and felt that the activities were relevant, practical, and helpful in strengthening their business development skills. Regarding follow-up, the online activities were useful, but there is room for improvement in organizing more in-person activities to ensure participants can continue applying what they've learned and stay motivated. The added value of the project was significant: participants gained valuable knowledge in financial planning, sustainability, crisis management, branding, and leadership. The PDA played a major role in this, providing hands-on experience. To improve, participants suggested even more mentoring or personalized feedback during the PDA phase, as well as more structured networking opportunities. What we appreciated the most was the diversity of participants, the collaborative spirit, and the opportunity to learn from real-life entrepreneurial experiences.

Miguel Angel Monjardin Castelao

The SCRATCH-PRO project stood out for its excellent implementation of the PDA (Professional Development Activity), featuring a clear structure, hands-on workshops, and a practical focus on sustainable entrepreneurship. Participants particularly appreciated:

  • The participatory methodology (workshops, role-plays) and alignment with the SDGs.
  • The logistical organization (transport, accommodation) and pre-event communication.
  • The intercultural diversity and networking opportunities.

However, the excessive administrative workload (tripartite agreements, post-event reports, mandatory webinars) was the most criticized aspect, creating unnecessary bureaucratic burden. Suggested improvements include:

  • Streamlining administrative requirements, especially for participants.
  • Balancing post-training workloads (e.g., reducing or consolidating reports).
  • Maintaining the PDA's high pedagogical standards in future editions, replicating its dynamic and practical approach.

In conclusion, SCRATCH-PRO successfully promoted sustainable entrepreneurship, though excessive documentation dampened the experience. Overall rating: 4/5 (★★★★☆).

IRATXE LINUESA GONZÁLEZ

During the SCRATCH Pro training course, I actively participated in all activities, contributing ideas, collaborating with my international teammates, and embracing the intercultural environment. Working on sustainable entrepreneurship based on the UN 2030 Agenda allowed me to combine creativity with teamwork, developing a viable and impactful business idea. The non-formal learning methods, intensive workshops, and cultural exchange helped me grow both personally and professionally, improving my adaptability, communication, and problem-solving skills. This experience not only expanded my knowledge but also inspired me to continue promoting sustainability and collaboration in future projects.
